returns are point-to-point to the date shown on the screener, annualised for stretches over a year, from published navs. a fund is counted as beating its index when it finished more than 1% a year ahead over the 5-year stretch, as matching it when within 1%, and as lagging it beyond that. "consistency" is the share of all 1-year stretches in the fund's history in which it finished ahead of its index.
benchmarks are total-return indices: nifty 100 for large cap, nifty midcap 150 for mid cap, nifty smallcap 250 for small cap, nifty 500 multicap 50:25:25 for multi cap, and nifty 500 for flexi cap, elss, focused, value, dividend yield and sectoral funds. large & mid cap is measured against a half-and-half blend of nifty 100 and nifty midcap 150. hybrid funds are measured against a blend of nifty 500 and the 10-year government bond in the proportion sebi sets for the category. these blends are our construction, not published indices.
each fund house appears once per category, through its growth option, in the regular or direct plan you choose. only schemes open today are included; schemes that closed or merged are not, which flatters the category as a whole. debt, gold, international, lock-in, multi-asset, equity-savings, arbitrage and index-fund categories have no single fair benchmark and are shown against their category average and their own record only. the example mixes on the home page are built from the past record of index mixes and are not a forecast.
